New Car registrations were down 2% for 2022 compared to 2021, still, 1,614,063 new cars were registered! Whilst Battery Electric Vehicle registrations were up 40.1% both diesel and petrol registrations were down 38.9% and 10.4% respectively when compared to 2021.
Only five of 2021’s best-selling new cars feature in the 2022 list.
10. Ford Fiesta
25,070 registrations
Despite announcing that the Ford Fiesta would be ending production in 2023, this didn’t manage to secure the Fiesta any higher than 10th, it is likely the last time we will see the Ford Fiesta on this list. From 2009 to 2020 the Fiesta was the best-selling new car.
9. Ford Kuga
26,549 registrations
The Ford Kuga is Ford’s second appearance on the list and the first of six SUVs to feature. The Kuga is a large family SUV with a hint of sportiness, it combines a range of efficient and strong engines, good practicality and comfort.
8. Volkswagen Golf
26,558 registrations
The Golf is down two places from last year after a decrease of around 3,000 registration.
The Volkswagen Golf hasn’t acclaimed iconic status for any old reason, it’s refined, spacious has excellent cabin quality and comes in a range of great engines. It is likely that the current SUV/Crossover craze is one of the reasons for the decline in sales of the hatchback.
7. Hyundai Tucson
27,839 registrations
The Hyundai Tucson has a unique look which may not be to everyone’s taste with its large grille and unique headlights but it has well-established itself as a quality mid-size SUV.
6. Kia Sportage
29,655 registrations
Up two places from 2021, we have the KIA Sportage, the Sportage is a great family SUV and comes with lots of kit as standard.
5. Mini
32,387 registrations
The Mini is available in either a three-door, a five-door or the Mini Electric, despite the Minis different styles it still retains its nimble handling and renowned go-kart feeling.
Mini plans to release the fourth generation later this year which Mini will be hoping improves its sales.
4. Ford Puma
35,088 registrations
A third model in the top 10 for Ford!
Whilst the revival of the Puma as an SUV Crossover was a controversial decision by Ford, it seems to have paid off being Fords best selling new car. The Ford Puma has a range of innovative features designed to improve your driving pleasure and is very practical.
3. Tesla Model Y
35,551 registrations
A huge increase in registrations (10,664) in December sees the Tesla Model Y take third. Despite being out in America since 2020, UK deliveries for the Model Y only began at the end of February 2022.
2. Vauxhall Corsa
35,910 registrations
Last years best selling new car! The Vauxhall Corsa has been a popular choice with young drivers for over a decade and is the UKs best selling new supermini.
1. Nissan Qashqai
42,704 registrations
The first British-made model to top the charts in 24 years!
The Nissan Qashqai which is built in Sunderland (our hometown) dethrones the Corsa. Back in 2021 Nissan the third generation of the Qashqai was revealed featuring a new modern look and an array of new features.
