blog banner - best selling new cars of 2021

Despite the global shortage of semiconductors or ‘chips’, which lead to production stoppages and factories continuing to be affected by staff shortages due to Covid-19 isolation requirements, new car registrations in the UK rose by 2.7% in the first 9 months of 2021 compared to the same time in 2020.

  • Diesel registrations were down 46.9%
  • Petrol registrations down 14.8%
  • MHEV Diesel registration up 71.8%
  • MHEV Petrol up 75.6%
  • PHEV registration up 83.1%
  • HEV registrations up 36%
  • BEV registration up 88.9%

The increase in registration of electric and hybrid vehicles and decrease in petrol and diesel registration is a trend that will definitely continue as we come close to the ban of new petrol and diesel cars in 2030. Many manufacturers are starting to increase their range of hybrid and electric vehicles as well as convert some of our favourite models to hybrid or electric.
