Three new driving laws came into force in November. Make sure you are up-to-date with the laws to ensure you aren’t caught out!
New Caravan Towing Rules - November 15th
Changes to towing rules mean that anyone who passed their car driving test after January 1st 1997 can now tow trailers up to 3,500kg. The DVLA will automatically update your driving licence to show you can tow trailers.
Previously drivers who passed after this date had to go through an extra car and trailer test to tow anything heavier.
New Clean Air Zone - November 29th
Portsmouth will become the third city outside of London to introduce a Clean Air Zone Charge. The charge will not affect private cars but will impact private hire vehicles and some businesses.
Hire cars such as taxis will be charged £10 per day to drive in the zone whilst coaches and lorries will be charged £50.
End of Driving Licence Extension - End of November
Due to coronavirus, licences that were due to expire between February and December 2020 were given an automatic 11 months extension. This 11-month extension ends at the end of November, which means that any licences due to expire in December 2020 will need to be renewed by the end of November.
