Today (14th of July 2022) the government announced a consultation to stop the sale of new petrol and diesel l-category vehicles by 2035.
The government are proposing 2035 for all L-category vehicles at the latest and 2030 for L1, L2, L3e-A1, L6 and L7 sub-categories.
L-category vehicles include the following and their sub-categories:
- L1 – light 2-wheel powered vehicles (including mopeds)
- L2 – 3-wheel mopeds
- L3 – 2-wheel motorcycles
- L4 – 2-wheel motorcycles with sidecars
- L5 – powered tricycles
- L6 – light quadricycles
- L7 – heavy quadricycles
This is part of the government’s ‘greenprint’, a plan to create cleaner air, healthier communities and tens of thousands of new green jobs across the UK. A year on since the plan was introduced almost 7,500 extra electric vehicle charge points have been installed to support the 900,000 green vehicle that are on UK roads.
